Dr. Howard Shares Guiding Principles with A-S Boys

September 24, 2012

"Dr. Chris Howard, the twenty-fourth President of Hampden-Sydney College and one of the youngest college presidents in the United States, spoke to the Middle and Upper School boys at Allen-Stevenson on Thursday, September 13.

Dr. Howard is a distinguished graduate of the US Air Force Academy, where he earned a BS in political science. A Rhodes Scholar, he earned his Doctorate in politics at Oxford University and an MBA with distinction from the Harvard Business School. At the Academy he received the Campbell Award, the highest academic award in the country presented to a senior football player.   During his presentation to the A-S boys, Dr. Howard shared many of his life experiences to help explain his guiding principles...the 5 B's."

  1. Be yourself
  2. Be humble
  3. Be accountable
  4. Be courageous
  5. Be the change in the world you want to see.

The Ninth Grade also had the opportunity to have lunch with Dr. Howard.

Thank you to alumnus Peter Kellner '84 for introducing Allen-Stevenson to Dr. Howard."
