President Chris Howard helped welcome the Class of 2012 into the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday October 27, 2012. Those inductees included standout soccer player Jeff Mencini '84 and special citations Joe Viar '63, Bill Kirk '72, and Johnny Ellis '70. Mencini was tabbed ODAC Player of the Year twice during his tenure at H-SC and his 21 goals in ODAC play ties him for third all time. Viar, Kirk, and Ellis have all made invaluable contributions to the H-SC athletic programs and have played instrumental roles in helping bolster our program. Joe Viar '63 and Bill Kirk '72 were both standout football players and Kirk is a member of the 1971 and 1972 Knute Rockne Bowl teams. Ellis '70 is one of the founders of the H-SC Varsity Club Rugby and has previously served as director of the Alumni Association. All three men have served or currently serve on the Hamdpen-Sydney Board of Trustees and exemplify and embody what it means to be a Hampden-Sydney man.
