President Howard Receives John Jasper Trailblazer Award

President Chris Howard was awarded with the 2014 John Jasper Trailblazer Award, given by the Sixth Mout Zion Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. The award honors African-Americans luminaries who have led oustanding lives highlighted by sacrifce and selfless service to their community. The award is named after John Jasper, a former slave turned preacher who became a world renowned theologian and philopsher. Jasper founded the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in an abandoned Conferderate stable in historic Shockoe Bottom in Richmond in 1867. Joining Dr. Howard as recipients were Grace E. Harris, former Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, and NFL Hall of Fame middle linebacker, Willie E. Lanier.
