Ralph Arthur Rossum
H-SC President, 1991-1992
The 1990-91 presidential search (now for the second time assisted by consultants) yielded a host of nominations and applications from an extraordinarily wide geographical range. In late spring 1991 the committee nominated Dr. Ralph A. Rossum, a University of Chicago-trained political scientist of considerable experience who was then Provost of Claremont-McKenna College in California. He assumed office in mid-August, but within nine months the early and constant proliferation of issues prejudicial to compatibility led him to resign and return to California.
