Graduate Business Agreements

Economics is one of the most popular majors at Hampden-Sydney College. In the junior and senior classes, 3% are Mathematical Economics majors, 14% are Economics and Business majors, and 17% are Economics majors.

Through this program, Hampden-Sydney College provides superb undergraduate preparation for a career in business, banking, and finance grounded in the breadth and depth of a liberal arts education. However, it goes a step further by allowing you to leverage the College's connections - formal and informal - with renowned graduate programs.

University of Virginia, Darden School of Business

The Darden School of Business shares a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Hampden-Sydney College for admission to their elite MBA program. Interested applicants must contact the Dean of the Faculty by the beginning of November to be considered. The agreement allows the following privileges to five graduates selected by the Provost and President of the College:

  • Application fee waiver
  • Automatic advancement to interview round
  • Counseling and advice from the Darden admissions staff

University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce

Hampden-Sydney also benefits from a strong (but informal) relationship with the McIntire School's one-year graduate degrees in business which offers an M.S. in Commerce.

Duke University, Fuqua School of Business

Duke University's Fuqua School of Business shares a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Hampden-Sydney College for their one year Master's of Management Studies program, which provides an excellent education in the foundations of business. This agreement allows Hampden-Sydney students to apply and be accepted to the MMS program at Fuqua during their junior year. Up to four students, nominated by the Provost and the President for the program, will receive the following privileges:

  • Application fee waiver
  • Automatic advancement to interview round
  • Counseling and advice from the Fuqua admissions staff

Wake Forest University, Babcock School of Business

Wake Forest's Babcock School of Business and Hampden-Sydney College have an established formal relationship. The Wake Forest--Hampden-Sydney Honors Program focuses on preferred admission for Hampden-Sydney students to the Wake Forest MA in Management Program that consists of:

  • Abridged admissions criteria
  • A streamlined application process
  • Guaranteed scholarship minima.

University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School

The University of North Carolina has one of the best Master's of Accounting (MAC) programs in the southeast. Hampden-Sydney regularly places graduates in the 12-month program designed specifically for students with liberal arts undergraduate backgrounds.

College of William and Mary, Mason School of Business

William & Mary actively recruits on campus for its one-year Master's in Accounting degree program and Hampden-Sydney often sends multiple students per year to their highly-ranked program. William and Mary's Mason School of Business also recruits Hampden-Sydney students to pursue a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) directly out of undergraduate school, and several of Hampden-Sydney's most successful alumni have earned their MBAs from the school.
