A Few Good Mens

Aaron Sorkin's "A Few Good Men"

The Hampden- Sydney College Fine Arts Department is proud to present its Spring production of Emmy award winning Aaron Sorkin?s A Few Good Men in conjunction with The XY Files: A Symposium on Masculinity. The play, first produced at the Heritage Repertory Theatre of the University of Virginia and subsequently as a hit film starring  Demi Moore, Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, now makes its way back to Virginia for the upcoming Hampden-Sydney College production.

The play, a riveting suspense tale and searing courtroom drama, shows the struggles of young Naval officers Daniel Kaffee, Sam Weinberg and Joanne Galloway, the play?s only female character, as they endeavor to defend two enlisted Marines accused of murdering a fellow Marine at a military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1986. As it unfolds this contemporary American classic raises the questions of what it means to have honor, dignity and humanity in an increasingly complex world.

The cast and staff for ?A Few Good Men? includes students from Hampden-Sydney and Longwood Colleges. Technical direction as well as set and lighting design are by Professor Matthew R. Dubroff of the Hampden-Sydney Fine Arts Department. Director Shirley Kagan is in her fifth year as a Professor of Fine Arts. Her most recent credit is last Fall?s production of the musical 1776.
