Academic Programs

Hampden-Sydney provides a strong liberal arts educational foundation by offering more than 25 majors.

But that's just the beginning.

Special academic programs in and out of the classroom enrich the college experience for students and prepare them for a successful career ahead:

Cooperative Programs
Graduate Business Agreements
Freshman Seminars
Honors Program
International Studies and Study Abroad
Internships
Western Culture Program

The Rhetoric Program, a unique component of our curriculum, equips students with the ability to write and communicate persuasively and thoughtfully.

May Term offers students learning opportunities beyond the regular academic year through courses on campus and abroad.

The Wilson Center for Leadership develops ethical and effective leaders by hosting lectures, forums, symposia, and excursions with direction from current and former military and political leaders.

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Political Economy (CEPE) motivates creative and resourceful young entrepreneurs in an effort to create a more just and prosperous world.

The Hampden-Sydney Study Group on Masculinities, in keeping with the college’s mission to form good men and good citizens in an atmosphere of sound learning, is both a center of thought and a center of action, fostering men’s studies research by faculty, staff, students, and visiting scholars. A part of its mission is to focus on teaching men and men’s learning.

The study group spaces for interaction and advocacy in relation to men’s issues through symposia, seminars, reading groups, and lectures. And as the group draws scholars, practitioners, and interested students to Hampden-Sydney, it will also develop original research in the multifaceted field of masculinity studies.
