Course Descriptions:

Spanish 201Intermediate Spanish I (3 credits): A continuation of the 101-102 sequence . Continued development of the four basic skills: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. Emphasis on the use of Spanish in the classroom. Prerequisite: 102, 103, or placement by the department.

AND

Spanish 202- Intermediate Spanish II (3 credits): Emphasis on theproductive skills of speaking and writing with a general grammar review. Continued practice in reading of authentic Hispanic texts, both popular and literary. Several oral presentations are required. Prerequisite: 201. 

OR 

Spanish 409 - Spanish-English Translation (3 credits) To produce a good translation requires grammatical and lexical knowledge of the sourse language (Spanish) as well as careful thinking about formality/informality, social register, genre and the source language culture. The translator must also have the same knowledge and considerations for the target language (English)as well as skill in text editing. Students will read and discuss translation theory from the word, sentence and whole text perspective and will practice translating four text types: consumer texts, technical/scientific material and print media. The final project will be a longer translation of a text type of the student's choosing. 

And one of the following courses taught by University of Virginia:

Course appropriate for students having recently completed SPAN 201-202

Courses appropriate for students having completed at least one 300-level course

* Spanish 4700 is equivalent to SPAN 303 at HSC and it is a requirement for majors and an option for minors.

 

Cost:  $6,825 subject to change
The fee does not include airfare. The group roundtrip airfare will be priced separately.

$500 non-refundable Deposit due by January 25, 2013.
