Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics

Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor appointment in the Economics & Business Department beginning August 2014.  Candidates should be prepared to teach introductory economics, intermediate microeconomics, and at least two of the following: law & economics, public finance, industrial organization, or economic development.  Ph.D. or ABD at advanced dissertation stage preferred.  Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching.

Visting Assistant Professor of Economics (Accounting)

Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment in the Economics & Business Department beginning August 2014.  Candidates should be prepared to teach introductory accounting (managerial and financial), corporate finance, and the occasional introductory economics course.  Ph.D. or ABD at advanced dissertation stage preferred in either economics or accounting.  The ideal candidate must be academically qualified (18 graduate hours) to teach both economics and accounting courses. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching.

Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in English, beginning August 2014.  We seek a candidate with a research and teaching focus in pre-1900 American literature and the ability to teach African-American literature. The successful candidate will teach seven courses per year, expanding the department's upper-level offerings in American literature and teaching African-American literature, Survey of American Literature I and II, introductory courses, and composition.  Qualifications: Ph.D in hand by time of employment, experience and commitment to teaching undergraduates, successful program of professional development and scholarship.

Assistant Professor of Fine Arts (Music)

The Department of Fine Arts invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Fine Arts - Music, to begin August 2014.  Candidates must have a specialty in choral conducting. Duties include conducting and managing the Hampden-Sydney Men's Chorus and teaching five courses per year, including sections of music appreciation, fundamentals, and special topics seminars in the candidate's particular areas of expertise.   The successful candidate will be expected to develop the music history curriculum, including the establishment of a critical survey of Western music.  DMA in choral conducting at time of appointment preferred; Ph.D.'s in musicology with exceptional choral experience will be considered.

Assistant Professor of Religion (Asian Religions)

The Religion Department invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Asian Religions with a specialization in Buddhism or Hinduism to begin in August 2014; an interest in interreligious dialogue or comparative theology is a plus; Ph.D. required. The position will entail teaching lower-level courses in world religions and upper-level courses related to the candidate's area of specialization. All Religion faculty participate in college-wide programs, including student advising and teaching freshman seminars, writing, or Western culture.
