Roy B. Sears Endowment for Student Internships

The Sears Endowment for Student Internships is made possible by the generous gift from the estate of Roy B. Sears, '42.  This endowment, along with additional funding provided by the Office of Career Development, has been established to assist students involved in an internship experience who might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints.  Students taking summer coursework will not be considered.  Traditionally, stipends range from $500-$1200 per awarded student but may vary based on the discretion of the awards committee.  The Office of Career Development and Hampden-Sydney College fully supports its students who engage in experiential learning activities through internships, volunteerism and job shadow opportunities.

Endowment Criteria
All undergraduate students are eligible to apply for a stipend, however preference will be given to juniors and those hailing from the state of West Virginia.  Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, a confirmed internship experience, and demonstrate some type of financial need.  All awards will be based on the anticipated educational value of the proposed internship, the student's self assessment and skill development, the variety of career paths submitted for approval, and the relative expenses tied directly to the internship including relocation costs, level of compensation during the internship, etc.  All stipends will be paid prior to commencing the internship, and stipends are taxable.

Please Note: any international students who accept summer internships and/or Sears Endowment funding through Career Development need to see Ms. Mary Cooper regarding Curricular Practical Training (CPT) internship approval.

Application deadline is Tuesday 3 April by 5:00pm. You can download and print the application here, and return to the Career Development Office on the second floor of Bagby.
