Internship Scholarships

The Career Education and Vocational Reflection Office and Hampden-Sydney College fully supports its students who engage in experiential learning activities through internships, volunteerism, and job shadow opportunities. In support of this, we offer internship scholarships for current students who have obtained summer internships who may not otherwise be able to participate, due to financial constraints. Generous donations have been sustained through three sources:

The Sears Endowment for Student Internships is made possible by the generous gift from the estate of Roy B. Sears, '42.
The Circle Internship Fund is made possible by a generous gift from fraternity alumni of Hampden-Sydney College.
The Charles Wilder Watts, Jr. '31 Chi Phi Internship Endowment is made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Watts' estate.

Traditionally, scholarships range from $500-$1200 per awarded student but may vary based on the discretion of the awards committee.

General Criteria
All undergraduate students are eligible to apply for a scholarship, however some scholarships may have additional requirements.  All applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, a confirmed internship experience, and demonstrate some type of financial need.  All awards will be based on the anticipated educational value of the proposed internship, the student's self assessment and skill development, the variety of career paths submitted for approval, and the relative expenses tied directly to the internship including relocation costs, level of compensation during the internship, etc.  All awards will be paid prior to commencing the internship, and they are taxable.

Please Note: any international students who accept summer internships and/or any scholarship funding through Career Education need to see Ms. Mary Cooper regarding Curricular Practical Training (CPT) internship approval.

Application deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3rd, in Bagby 209
