Policy Statement on Student Cancellations and No-Shows

We hold all of our students to the same professional standards as you would find outside of Hampden-Sydney. An appointment or RSVP is a non-verbal commitment, and we take them seriously.

Cancellation Policy
If it is necessary to cancel any appointment with a Career Coach, interview (phone, Skype, on-campus, etc.), and/or any other Career Education sponsored event that requires an RSVP, please do so as soon as possible, and within at least 24 hours. Appointment and interview spots are in high demand, and your early cancellation may give other students an opportunity.

To cancel an appointment, interview, or decline an invitation to a Career Education sponsored event after the registration deadline has passed, call (434) 223-6106, or visit the Career Education Office in Bagby 209.

No-Show Policy
Not showing up for a scheduled appointment, interview coordinated by Career Education staff, or a Career Education event that requires an RSVP, is a failure to honor your commitment, and reflects poorly on your reputation.

In the event of multiple late cancellations or no-shows you will forfeit your interviewing privileges through Career Education, and waive your right to participate in any Career Education sponsored event, workshop, or one-on-one career coaching session. In addition, your access to TigerConnections, our online job and internship board, will be disabled until the following criteria are satisfied.

In order to reinstate privileges to the above you must:

  • Meet with the Director or Associate Director of the Career Education and Vocational Reflection Office.
  • Write a letter of apology explaining your absence to the employer(s) affected and submit a copy of the letter to the Associate Director.

Policy Statement on Connecting Students with Alumni

  1. Schedule a meeting with a Career Coach to discuss why you want to connect with H-SC alumni. This way, the Career Coach can better understand you and your goals when reaching out to alumni on your behalf.
  2. After the meeting, the Career Coach will send you a list of alumni, and request that you pick several from that list with whom you would like to be connected.
  3. Within one week of getting the list, send the Career Coach your alumni selections.
  4. Within 2 weeks of receiving your selections, the Career Coach will include you and each alumnus you have identified in introductory emails and advise you on how best to follow up on each.
  5. When sending follow-up correspondence to alumni requesting a phone or in-person meeting, CC the Career Coach so that they know when you have reached out.
  6. Please notify us if alumni do not respond.
