Five Hampden-Sydney students network and dine with Alumnus Adam O'Donnell '12, owner of Quantifize, at the PDI 2014 Etiquette Dinner
Each January, just prior to classes resuming, the Career Education Office offers the Professional Development Institute. The PDI is a 2-day event in which students are invited to participate in a variety of professional development activities, including their choice of breakout sessions, a formal dinner, keynote speakers, and networking with Hampden-Sydney alumni and peers. Topics covered in January 2015 included topics such as resume and cover letter writing 101, marketing yourself with LinkedIn, professional networking, personal finance and investing after college, and an Alumni Advice Panel.
"I learned both the importance of networking as well as important techniques while networking. Additionally, I learned how to manage my money after college."
- Jake Roden-Foreman '15, PDI 2015
"I would recommend others to participate [in the PDI] because it's really hard to know where to start and what steps to take in planning your future without some formal guidance."
- Kyle Hart '16, PDI 2014
"The Professional Development Institute was a great experience. I will carry many of the lessons I learned in those two days for the rest of my life. The program had a great mix of different aspects of life after college. Meeting alumni, learning business etiquette, and learning how to build your personal brand were just a few of the valuable parts PDI had to offer. It definitely got me thinking about my career and I have had a different level of focus ever since."
- James Hughes '15, PDI 2014
