Settle Hall

Settle Hall

1991
Via Sacra
Hampden-Sydney, VA 23943

The main dining area of Settle Hall, Pannill Commons, was opened in the spring of 1991. The upper floor, which includes a meeting room (The Chairman's Room formerly Old Tiger Inn), a board room and accompanying ante room, opened in the fall of 1991. The Tiger Inn is in the lower level and opened in spring of 1994. In it are a student bar and lounge, TVs, state-of-the-art sound system, pool tables, dart boards, and video games. The Chalgrove Lake area is landscaped for informal gatherings and picnics.

In 1995 the building was named in honor of W. Sydnor Settle 1955, Trustee 1972-1994 and Chairman of the Board 1980-1994.

The architectural design of Settle Hall is a modern interpretation of the Federal style. The cupola was modeled after one in Colonial Williamsburg, and the interior rotunda is unique to Hampden-Sydney's buildings.
