Whitehouse Quadrangle

College Road
Hampden-Sydney, VA 23943

South of Hampden-House is Whitehouse Quadrangle. These residence halls were the gift of Dr. Francis R. Whitehouse '34, in honor of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence B. Whitehouse. Between Whitehouse and the south side of campus, several spring-fed streams flow into Chalgrove Lake, named for the battlefield on which John Hampden fell in defense of English civil liberties in 1643. From Chalgrove Lake the Short Memorial Trail and the Wilson Nature and Jogging Trails wind their way through pine forests along the borders of the tract given in 1775 by Peter Johnston for the original campus.
