Academic and Leadership Awards
Hampden-Sydney offers a number of Honors Scholarships, Achievement Awards and Citizen-Leader Scholarships that recognize outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement. In addition there are Special Awards and Regional Awards, including the Sprinkle Scholarship. Honors Scholarships at three levels for freshmen entering fall 2013:
Students who meet the listed criteria will be considered for the scholarship.
- ALLAN SCHOLARSHIPS
(An SAT score of 1400 or better and a class standing in the top 5%)
$30,000 grant - VENABLE SCHOLARSHIPS
(An SAT score of 1350 or better and a class standing in the top 10%)
$25,000 grant - PATRICK HENRY SCHOLARSHIPS
(An SAT score of 1250 or better and a class standing in the top 15%)
$20,000 grant
Honors Scholarship for enrolled students with outstanding academic records during their freshmen year:
- MADISON SCHOLARSHIPS
$20,000 grant (amount applies to freshmen entering fall 2010, fall 2011, fall 2012 and fall 2013)
Additional funding beyond these awards is possible through our regular financial aid program, based on a student's college-determined financial need.
Financial need is determined by the college once the FAFSA has been received from the applicant. Grant awards, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid.
Achievement Scholarship for student achievement at three levels for freshmen entering fall 2013:

- PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIPS
$15,000 grant
For candidates who have exhibited significant leadership in their school or community and who have either a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and at least 1100 on the SAT (24 composite on the ACT), or at least 1200 on the SAT (27 Composite on the ACT) and, in the opinion of Hampden-Sydney College, strong academic performance in a rigorous college-preparatory program. - DEAN'S SCHOLARSHIPS
$10,000 grant
For candidates who have exhibited significant leadership in their school or community and who have either a grade-point average of 3.3 or better and at least 1050 on the SAT (23 composite on the ACT), or at least 1150 on the SAT (25 Composite on the ACT) and, in the opinion of Hampden-Sydney College, strong academic performance in a rigorous college-preparatory program. - ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS
$5,000 grant
For candidates who show strong academic performance and who, in the opinion of Hampden-Sydney College, have exhibited outstanding leadership in their school or community through involvement in Clubs, Organizations, Publications, Scouting, Church Activities, or Volunteer Work.
Citizen-Leader Scholarships for freshmen entering fall 2013:
You may receive only one Citizen-Leader Scholarship of $5,000.
- EAGLE SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP
$5,000 grant
Any accepted Eagle Scout who attends Hampden-Sydney College will receive this scholarship. - STUDENT GOVERNMENT PRESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP
$5,000 grant
Any accepted applicant who is the President of the Student Government at his high school will receive this scholarship. - BOYS STATE PARTICIPANT SCHOLARSHIP
$5,000 grant
Any accepted applicant who has participated in Boys State will receive this scholarship.
All grade point averages stated in these scholarships are cumulative 9th grade through the first semester of the 12th grade. If you qualify for more than one of these Scholarships, you will be given the award which carries the highest recognition. Additional funding beyond these awards is possible through our regular financial aid program, based on a student's college-determined financial need.
