Financial Aid Application Process

To apply for financial aid (need-based College grants and all federal aid, including grants and loans) at Hampden-Sydney College, you will only need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible, but by no later than March 1 for prospective students and by no later than April 1 for returning students. 

The FAFSA online application is available at www.fafsa.gov and
Hampden-Sydney's code is #003713.

You will need to apply for a federal PIN number first (unless you already have one) by going to www.pin.ed.gov. Be sure to have your federal income tax return information on hand when completing the FAFSA, but if needed, use estimated tax information in order to apply by the deadline.  If you use estimated tax information, make sure to update your FAFSA data for any changes after you file your federal tax return. 

After you file the FAFSA, we will take it from there.  We will review your financial data, determine your family's "need" and do our best to make funds available to you through a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment.

We will start sending out award letters in early March for prospective students and early June for returning students.The packet you receive will also let you know of any additional steps needed to complete the application process. It is important to file the FAFSA accurately and by the priority filing date.  It helps us make sure we can offer you the most complete financial aid package possible.
