Letter from Chairman Ellis
I hope you have marked your calendar and plan to join us for Founders Weekend at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, on March 22-24, 2013. This year we will highlight The Arts, Creativity, Innovation, Design & the Hampden-Sydney Man throughout the weekend's events.
Plan to arrive on Friday and join fellow Founders at 6 pm at Try-me, an urban restoration project offering innovative space for artists and art educators. During the reception we will enjoy the creative work of several of our Hampden-Sydney family brewers, vintners, and distillers! Afterward you are on your own to explore restaurants, eateries, and the night life in the Richmond area. The weekend includes a number of planned activities that may interest you.
The traditional golf outing will be held at The Country Club of Virginia. A tour of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has been arranged as well as a tour at the Capitol related to the filming of the movie Lincoln. In addition, there are numerous museums and historic sites within walking distance of the hotel. Some of you may want to join me as I head off to see H-SC take on UofR on the Rugby Pitch at the University of Richmond!
On Saturday evening we will gather in the central foyer at The Jefferson for cocktails at 6 pm, followed by dinner in the Ballroom. That evening we will welcome Scott Cooper, Class of 1992, actor, screen writer, and producer, who will share memories of his road from H-SC to Hollywood.
This invitation, as well as our corresponding website, includes all the information you need to make your travel plans. Please call The Jefferson Hotel's reservations office at your earliest convenience to make your reservation in the Hampden- Sydney College block of rooms. A special room rate of $179 a night will be honored until February 21, 2013, or until rooms are no longer available. You may also want to make advance reservations for the acclaimed Afternoon Tea or Sunday Champagne Brunch. Please RSVP by March 8th.
