The Paule Kline Scholarship for Study in France was established in 2007 by Dr. Paule Gounelle Kline, a Modern Languages Department Professor at Hampden-Sydney from 1983-1997. It reflects Madame Kline's love for the College and teaching and is meant to foster a better understanding of and appreciation for French language and culture. Academic record, demonstrated financial need, and participation at the French Table are criteria for selection. Applicants are also judged on the content of a paper they must submit to the Chair of the Modern Languages Department explaining why they wish to study in France. First preference will be given to a French major who plans to live with a French family with children of the same age.
