Hampden-Sydney College is proud to assume the sponsorship of the Münster Summer Program, which has sent more than a thousand students to Germany since 1971. In Münster, students can either finish their language requirement abroad or fulfill two of the upper-level courses required for a German minor or major. This unique seven-week program offers students a living-learning experience where classroom instruction and surroundings reinforce each other. Students reside in private homes during their stay and personal contact with host families provides them with a first-hand experience of German life and culture. The program is open to all students in good standing, who have completed at least one year of Elementary German or the equivalent.

LocationH-SC Study Abroad in Muenster, Germany

Founded in 793, Münster is one of the oldest and most picturesque university towns in Germany. It became the capital of Westphalia and was chosen as the scene for the signing of the Peace Treaty after the Thirty Years War, in 1648. The cultural and intellectual awareness of this former Hanseatic city is manifested in its rich examples of virtually all major architectural styles, notably its beautifully restored medieval buildings and its many excellent institutions of higher learning. First among these is the University of Münster, chartered in 1773 and one of Germany's largest universities. Münster's convenient location will enable students to take excursions to the neighboring countries of France, Holland, and Denmark.
