Search for Funding

Once the Project Summary form is completed, the Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations can help identify potential funders through research.  "Potential funders" here means those organizations whose interests match our needs and whose guidelines we fit.  We do this by

• conducting searches. Among our resources are The Foundation Directory and FC Search, created by the Foundation Center, and Directory of Virginia Foundations. As a member of the Foundation Center's Associates Program, we have access to a wealth of database and online research tools; we belong to a number of online and mail services.
• checking our files to see whether we have dealt with a particular corporation or foundation before. We maintain hundreds of files which include narrative histories of the College's relations with corporations and foundations over the years. We know when a grant was last received and what it was for, and when and how the College may approach the company or foundation again.
• getting in touch with our trustees or the foundation's trustees to find out more about the foundation and the grants process. We keep records of H-SC alumni, trustees, or friends who have contacts on the boards of companies and foundations.
