Military Veterans & Their Sons

We look forward to working with you as a veteran of the armed services. If you wish to continue military involvement, leadership training, or just want to receive a solid liberal arts education to prepare you for further success in life, Hampden-Sydney is a great place to do so.

Hampden-Sydney College is older than the nation itself, having been founded on November 10, 1775, the same date as the birth of the United States Marine Corps.  We have strong connections to our military, both now and in the past. The tradition of Hampden-Sydney men serving our country dates back to the American Revolution and to the two men who gave their lives during it, who are honored–as all our alumni who fought and died in the name of our country–on our War Memorial Gate.  The military tradition continues today with the men who serve around the world in defense of our nation and the protection of our liberties.

We are committed to enriching the personal and civic lives of our students at Hampden-Sydney College.  Here you will find an active focus on leadership and public service through the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest.  We are particularly proud of the Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate Program and our Public Service Certificate Program which are offered through the Wilson Center.

At Hampden-Sydney College we also believe strongly in the power of the people.  The Director of the Wilson Center, Dr. David E. Marion, describes it this way:

left quoteThe Founders of this country understood that national strength is not the product of institutions, even well-designed institutions, but of the greatness of a people.  It is not an exaggeration to say that America desperately needs young men who have been shaped by an honor code that emphasizes personal integrity, a liberal arts curriculum that teaches good habits of mind and soul, and a code of student conduct that promotes civility, service and leadership.  These are the distinctive hallmarks of a Hampden-Sydney education.right quote
