Hampden-Sydney College Class of 2011, Louis Avery Moncure, presented his Departmental Honors Project recently in a public lecture at the College. Avery is one of a select group of seniors who undertook an extended research project which culminated in a public presentation. Although the departmental honors students are undergraduates, they are expected to pursue their research project at a graduate-school level. Each project is evaluated on its originality, on the thoroughness of its research methods, and on the quality of the final presentation.
Avery's Honor's project in Chemistry was entitled "Investigations Concerning the Stability of an Evolving Quaternary System of the type Oil/Water/NaOH/Surfactant." A chemistry major, Avery is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and is the son of Buzzy & Vanessa Moncure of Fredericksburg.
