On May 13, at commencement ceremonies marking the end of the 237th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College, DesRaj Clark, Class of 2012, received the First Honor (Valedictorian Award). Clark, graduating summa cum laude in biology, is an Allan Scholar and served as a member of the Student Court and as a Resident Advisor. He was a member of the President's Men and the Rugby Club and was named to the USA Rugby National Honor Roll. Raj is a member of the national honor societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics) and Chi Beta Phi (scientific). As a junior he received the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award and, as a senior, the President's Award for Academic Excellence in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
