This summer, President Christopher Howard (right) and Dean David Klein (below) announced the formation of a President's Leadership Council (sometimes called "The PLC" on the Hampden-Sydney sidewalks). The PLC builds on the tradition of the Student Leadership Summit that for the past three years has met at the beginning of the fall semester. In the fall of 2007, Dean Klein and then-Student Body President Jim Gresham '08 organized the summit as an opportunity to gather student leaders from around campus to discuss the upcoming year.
The President's Leadership Council provides a more regular forum for members of student government, resident advisors, fraternity leaders, club and organization presidents, and team captains (a total of about 80 students) to meet with one another and the College president on a monthly basis. It's an opportunity for the CEO of the College to meet with the CEOs of the various student organizations on campus to answer questions, exchange ideas, and share useful information in an informal environment. There will also be several brief presentations of relevant leadership subjects. Topics of conversation under consideration by President Howard for the PLC include:How best to engage H-SC students and to encourage participation in College events;
The PLC meetings will be held monthly over lunch in Crawley Forum during the 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Tuesday convocation period, with the first meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2011.
