Drew Kennedy, Hampden-Sydney Class of 2002, will perform his original country music at Hampden-Sydney on Thursday, October 11.
Kennedy has been writing songs for a living since 2004. He recently finished recording his fifth album and writing his first novel, both released in November of 2011. They are both called Fresh Water in the Salton Sea. Other albums include Alone, But Not Lonely (2010), An Audio Guide to Cross Country Travel (2009), and Dollar Theatre Movie (2007).
Kennedy lives in New Braunfels, Texas, with his wife, three dogs, a cat, and a generous school of fish. He says, "I love music. I love hearing songs that are intelligent, thought provoking, and honest. They give me hope, and those who wrote them inspire me. I travel a lot for my job. There's not much of a point in writing songs if you don't share them with an audience. Besides, the dogs can't clap, I can't hear the fish, and the cat generally doesn't care about what I do... and everyone needs a little positive affirmation in their lives from time to time."
The concert is free and open to the community. It begins at 9 PM in the Tiger Inn in Settle Hall on the Hampden-Sydney campus.
