Hampden-Sydney College, classes and offices, operated on a normal schedule on Monday, October 29, and we anticipate the same on Tuesday. Thus far the impact of Hurricane Sandy has been slight. It is predicted that we will have somewhat heavier rain and stronger winds overnight. The possible disruption of normal operations may be loss of power.
In the event of power loss Settle Hall (dining hall) and the Bortz Library are powered by generators and continue operations.
Be prepared for possible power outages by following the guidance from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). http://www.vaemergency.gov/readyvirginia/getakit
In the case of any emergency, the College notifies faculty, staff, and students via the Emergency Notification System (ENS). Faculty, staff, and students who have not done so are encouraged to register their cell phones with the ENS. Register as follows:
Campus Police can be reached at 223-6164. If there is no answer, call Farmville Police Dispatch at 392-3332. They will contact Campus Police. Of course, in the case of an emergency, dial 911.
