Dr. Dennis G. Stevens has been named Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College. Dr. Stevens is currently Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at Randolph College. He will assume his new position on July 1, 2012.
Dr. Stevens holds his A.B. in Political Science, cum laude, from Kenyon College and his Ph.D. in Political Science from Boston College. Prior to coming to Randolph College in 2008, he held administrative posts at the University of Finlay (OH) and Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH, and chaired the Department of Government and International Affairs at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD.
He is the author of Challenges to Peace in the Middle East, published by Allyn & Bacon/Longman, 2003, and co-author with Peter Schotten of Religion, Politics, and the Law published by Wadsworth Publishing Company, 1995, as well as numerous articles.
Dr. Stevens and his wife, Bonnie, will reside on campus. They have two daughters. Sarah, who is married and has three children, lives in Silver Spring, MD, and Rachel, who is studying interior design in Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Stevens replaces Dr. Robert T. Herdegen III, who has served as Dean of the Faculty for four years. Dr. Herdegen will return to the classroom as Professor of Psychology.
