The second C Day, September 10, drew over 1000 college community members to Everett Stadium for Opening Convocation.
On C Day Hampden-Sydney College comes together to reaffirm our membership in a community where we care about and for each other. Opening Convocation on Tuesday morning was the largest non-athletic gathering in the history of Everett Stadium. The event was attended by 76% of the students, including all freshmen, and nearly all faculty and staff.
On this day student government officers are inaugurated and outstanding students recognized with the ODK Award, the Phi Beta Kappa Awards, and the President's Awards for Scholarship & Character, Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Natural Sciences.
Following Opening Convocation, each class attends a program specifically for them. Sophomores received their class pins; juniors received their class coins and rings. Freshmen participated in public service projects in the afternoon which are designed to raise their awareness of the needs in local community which surrounds the College.
Service projects included the Moton Museum, the Free Clinic, Habitat, Heartland Horse Heroes, GLC Horse Haven, 10 miles of road and highway around the College, Prince Edward Elementary School, College Church, Slate Hill, the Wilson Trail, and the Woodland retirement community.
