At the invitation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Commission and the Commonwealth of Virginia, over twenty colleges and universities sent choral singers to Richmond, joining with the Richmond Symphony and Chorus, for an April 13th concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Hampden-Sydney sent seven members of the Men's Chorus and their director, Professor Frank Archer.
Patriotic selections included "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "We'll Rally 'Round the Flag," and the premiere performance of "Emancipation Overture" by Willis L. Barnett. The concert will be broadcast by WCVE, PBS television and NPR radio, on April 25th.
The H-SC Men's Chorus members are pictured with the Sweet Briar group before the concert.
