The Hampden-Sydney Office of Institutional Advancement has been honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III. "3000 Alumni Strong," the Hampden-Sydney Fund's fiscal year 2013 alumni giving campaign, received Awards of Excellence in both the Philanthropy ‐ Overall Annual Fund Program and the Online Innovation/Experimentation categories. "3000 Alumni Strong" received a Grand Award for Fundraising Videography, the highest honor in that category.
Zach Hellmuth '13 did an incredible job of filming and editing the videos, and the Grand Award for Fundraising Videos is a significant honor for a young alumnus and aspiring filmmaker.
The "3,000 Alumni Strong" challenge was launched on April 1, 2013. The marketing campaign to benefit the Hampden-Sydney Fund utilized a series of videos, emails, and mailings that featured familiar faces and scenes from Hampden-Sydney College. The goal was to increase the number of alumni donors to 3,000, up from 2,600 the previous year. Hampden-Sydney alumni responded enthusiastically, breaking the 3,000 goal with 3,371 total alumni donors at the close of fiscal year on June 30, 2013. The giving percentage was increased by seven points, a significant accomplishment in only three months.
According to Dr. Lee King, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, "To be honored for excellence by our peers in the Advancement profession is a significant honor for our staff. "3000 Alumni Strong" was successful because of our creative team of professionals in the Office of Institutional Advancement and the faculty and staff who helped them by appearing in our video messages. Hampden-Sydney alumni overwhelmingly affirm the strength of their relationships to the faculty and staff, so hearing from them gave our alumni an extra incentive to give."
The Hampden-Sydney Fund looks to continue the success of "3,000 Alumni Strong" with "Make History for H-SC," the current effort to set a record number of alumni donors in one fiscal year: 3775. The "Make History" campaign has three timed participation goals: 1500 by December 31 - Exceeded at 1543; 2500 by March 31; 3775 by June 30 - more than any other year in Hampden-Sydney's history. As each periodic goal is reached, the College receives a $100,000 matching gift.
