Spring is always a glorious season on the "Hill" and much anticipated after an unseasonably cold winter. This spring will see Hampden-Sydney benefit in several important ways.
Hampden-Sydney received by March 1, the application deadline, over 3500 applications for the 2014 freshman class. This number substantially exceeds the largest number of freshman applications previously received by the College. To date deposits for the 310 freshman spaces exceed the last six years.
The Hampden-Sydney Office of Institutional Advancement has been honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III for "3000 Alumni Strong," the Hampden-Sydney Fund's fiscal year 2013 alumni giving campaign. Building on that success the current "Make History" campaign for the Hampden-Sydney Fund met its December 31st goal and is working toward the second goal on March 31st.
Alumni should plan to attend their local RPE (Rhetoric Proficiency Exam) Toasts on March 24th or March 25th.
The College comes off an outstanding giving year (ending June 30, 2013). As reported in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, total giving exceeded that of every other private institution in Virginia except Washington & Lee and the University of Richmond and was greater than five four-year state universities.
Having recently completed a major redesign and upgrade of the Website, Hampden-Sydney, with the help of a $100,000 grant from the Jesse Ball DuPont Fund, will significantly expand its efforts in digital marketing including search engine optimization (SEO), utilization of mobile advertising and video advertising networks, retargeting, and increasing its Social Media presence.
Expanded digital marketing will broaden the College's name recognition and mission awareness and assist in achieving a Strategic Plan goal of a more geographically and ethnically diverse student body. The opening enrollment for 2013-14 was 1070 and growth to 1100-1150 by 2020 is called for in the Strategic Plan.
