On Tuesday, October 7, Hampden-Sydney College will host leadership consultant Michael Markovits who will give a series of lectures on professional communications skills and strategies. The Tuesday night talk, in particular, will focus on "Qualities of Effective Leadership in the 21st Century".
Markovits is a Partner at AchieveMission where he works to help non-profit organizations significantly improve their leadership and talent management. Markovits is also former Vice President of Business and Technical where he was globally responsible for identifying and developing the leadership pipeline and placement of business and technical leaders at all levels. He has written and spoken on topics related to management, training, and other organizational development issues. Before joining IBM, he held a series of posts in human resources, organizational change, and leadership development at GE (General Electric). Markovits holds a B.A .from Oberlin College and M.A.s from Harvard and MIT in education and in management. In addition to his corporate roles, he has been actively involved in non-profit and social change work focused primarily on issues of peace, reconciliation, and ending racism.
The event is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and the Hampden-Sydney's Wilson Center for Leadership. It is free and open to the public and begins at 7:30 PM in the Parents & Friends Lounge.
