On Tuesday, February 24, Hampden-Sydney College will host author, photographer, and writing professor Ran Henry '79.
This reading and talk will feature his biography of Steve Spurrier, the 1966 Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback who transitioned from player to coach and turned the University of Florida, Duke University, and the University of South Carolina into winners.
Henry has written for the Florida Times-Union, the St. Petersburg Times, the Miami Herald Sunday magazine, and Tropic. He has taught writing at FIU and Virginia Commonwealth University. He currently teaches at the University of Virginia and at the University of South Carolina's Honor College. There he teaches a narrative, non-fiction course specializing in football writing. He says that students, in his class, will focus on the "ethos of football and the drama of particular games, enriched by interviews and research."
The event begins at 7:30 PM in Parents and Friends Lounge, and it is free and open to the public.
