ARTICLE I: MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Unity ALLiance is one that is three-fold: educational, political, and social. From an educational standpoint, we, as an organization, will provide educational experiences for all students interested to create a more informed H-SC community. In addition, the educational experience will extend to members of the Unity ALLiance, as we will attend various conferences to achieve a well-rounded student body. From a political standpoint, the group will not take a partisan position, as far as Republican, Democrat, etc., but be interested in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (GLBTQ) issues that may arise in the political world. Lastly from a social perspective, the Unity ALLiance will build a stronger bond with those other GLBTQ groups and their straight allies at other colleges, within the state, and on a national level.
ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1: QUALIFICTION
Membership is open to any interested individual, regardless of race, religion, nationality, creed, age, handicap, sexual orientation, gender, and/or outward appearances, wishing to support the HSC Unity ALLiance. The only requirement for any member who enters is to be open-minded and willing to learn and experience new things. NO intolerance of any kind is allowed.
SECTION 2: PRIVILEGES
Privileges of HSC Unity ALLiance members include:
A. The ability to vote on any issues regarding the UA
B. The opportunity to run for any elected office
C. The opportunity to attend private meetings/events
ARTICLE III: RULES AND REGULATIONS
SECTION 1: ATTENANCE
Members who don't hold an office are required to come to at least one meeting a month. Officers are allowed to miss no more than three meetings a semester. The President must be present at ALL meetings and events. Mandatory or special meetings are, as said, mandatory and ALL members are required to attend.
If a member or officer can't attend a meeting for whatever reason, must notify the President as soon as possible and explain his/her reason for the absence. Any absence due to other obligations (educational or otherwise), do not count against the allowed absences.
SECTION 2: DUES
Dues are five dollars per semester. Dues can be increased if the majority of the members agree with the increase.
SECTION 3: MEETINGS
Meetings will be held once a week. The meeting day will be decided around the availability of the President and a majority vote by the members. The President can decide to call emergency/mandatory meetings for members to come to at anytime.
ARTICLE IV: ELECTIONS
SECTION 1: BASICS
Elections will be held during the spring semester ever year, unless otherwise necessary.
SECTION 2: NOMINATIONS/CAMPAIGNING
Only members who are, without a doubt, returning in the upcoming fall semester and have paid his/her dues can run for any office. Candidates are nominated the last meeting before Spring Break. Members can either nominate themselves or another for an office. Members can run for more than one office, but can only be elected for one position. Once all the offices have a candidate, optional speeches can be given at the end of the first meeting after Spring Break.
SECTION 3: VOTING
Voting will take place at the end of the 2nd meeting after Spring Break. All candidates will be chosen on a simple majority basis. For the presidency, all members, except the current President, are allowed to vote. In the event of a tie, the current President is in charge of choosing the President-elect.
For the other offices, all members, except the President-elect, are allowed to vote. In the event of a tie for an office, the President-elect is in charge of choosing the winner of the office.
SECTION 4: POST-ELECTIONS
After winning the elections, all the officers-to-be will work closely with the current officers for the rest of the semester to learn how to run the club for upcoming fall semester.
SECTION 5: EMERGENCY ELECTIONS
In the event that an officer, excluding the President, resigns or is impeached, the President can appoint someone to fill the position until another member expresses interest in the office. Once another member expresses interest in the office, then a vote will be held in which a simple majority will elect the new official. If a majority cannot be reached then the appointed official shall remain in the office.
In the event that the President resigns or is impeached, the Vice President will take over as President for the rest of the academic year.
The Executive Council will consist of the President, Vice President, Event Coordinator, Treasurer, and Secretary. They will meet only when discussing the approval of an amendment before it is voted upon by the members of the club. Also they will meet when discussing the possible removal/impeachment of a member or officer. The Historian will only be included in these meetings if the Executive Council feels photographic and/or video documentation is necessary.
ARTICLE VI: POWERS AND DUTIES
SECTION 1: PRESIDENT
The powers and duties of the President will include, but are not limited to:
A. Spokesperson for the Unity ALLiance
B. Works closely Vice President and Event Coordinator
C. Plans and runs the meetings for every week
D. Must be informed about any UA event or activity
E. Appoints duties to members/officers regardless of their position
F. Fulfills any vacant officer position until it can be filled by another member
SECTION 2: VICE PRESIDENT/ADVISOR
The powers and duties of the Vice President will include:
A. Serves as president in the absence of the President
B. Keeps track of time during the meetings
C. Maintains order during the meetings
D. Maintains contact with other colleges/universities GSA/UA
E. One of the President's Advisors
SECTION 3: EVENT COORDINATOR/ADVISOR
The powers and duties of the Event Coordinator will include:
A. Takes on Vice President's duties when he/she is absent
B. Researches future events/conferences
C. Plans and set-up programs and activities
D. Appoints duties to members when planning events
E. One of the President's Advisors
SECTION 4: SECRETARY-TREASURER
The powers and duties of the Secretary will include:
A. Records the minutes of each meeting
B. Sends out email notifications regarding meetings/events
C. Keeps track of roster and attendance
D. Collects and keeps track of who paid dues
E. Requests budget for each semester
F. Keeps track of receipts and spending
G. Plans fundraising events
SECTION 6: HISTORIAN
The powers and duties of the Historian will include:
A. Takes pictures and records events
B. Maintains website/Facebook page
C. Reports event recaps to webpage/newspaper
ARTICLE VII: FACULTY ADVISORS
The Faculty Advisors are not required to do any more than provide the members and officers with their great wisdom. In the event that a member, for whatever reason, does not feel comfortable talking to one of the officers or fellow members, then his/her next option is one of the Faculty Advisors.
ARTICLE VIII: IMPEACHMENT
SECTION 1: VERBAL WARNING
If any member, plaintiff, feels another member or officer is not performing their duties, then he/she must first, in private, bring the complaint to the accused person. The accused then has two weeks to fix the problem.
SECTION 2: WRITTEN PROPOSAL
After the two weeks, if the plaintiff doesn't feel the accused has corrected the problem, then he/she must submit a written proposal to the President, or Vice President if the accused is the President. The written proposal must have a detailed description of the unresolved problem and, if possible, specific examples when the problem was observed. The Executive Council will then meet, excluding the accused officer (if it is an officer that is in question), and discuss whether or not the accused should be suspended or impeached (in the case the accused is an officer).
SECTION 3: VOTING
After the Executive Council has made a decision, the following meeting a vote will be held on the sentence agreed upon by the Executive Council. Only a two-thirds majority vote can pass the sentence. If a two-thirds majority cannot be reached, then the members can either vote on a lesser punishment or dismissal of the punishment.
ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS
SECTION 1: PROPOSAL
Any member at any time during any meeting can submit a written amendment to the President.
SECTION 2: APPROVAL
The Executive Council when then have a meeting to approve the proposed amendment for form and content, and also make sure it doesn't contradict anything already present in the Constitution.
SECTION 3: VOTING
The following meeting the proposed amendment will be voted on and can only be passed by a simple majority. Once passed, it will be added to the Constitution by teh Secretary.
