EPISCOPAL-LUTHERAN CAMPUS MINISTRY

Contact Bob Zupanek, Campus Minister  434-603-1080
    bob@johnsmemorial.org
The purpose of the Episcopal - Lutheran Campus Ministry is to provide students from a variety of faith backgrounds a place to explore life's questions in the context of the Christian faith. We engage scripture, worship, reason and experience in a manner that both progressively addresses today's issues, and is rooted theologically in the time-tested anchors of Christian belief and practice. We also just have a lot of fun! The Episcopal - Lutheran Campus ministry is based at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, located at 400 High Street in Farmville. The ELCM group meets Sunday evenings from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the Parish House for Worship, followed by dinner and discussion or program. Students are also welcome to actively participate in the Sunday morning worship at Johns (8:00 am and 10:30 am) as well as in the Wednesday night Evening Prayer and Eucharist at 6:00 pm. Mission trips, service projects, recreational activities and other special events occur throughout the semester. ECLM is open to all students on both campuses of Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College.

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES

The mission of FCA is to present to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. Our relationships will demonstrate steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.  FCA gathers once a week for lunch.  Here we fellowship, share a devotion, and pray for our personal concerns and those of the community.  Individuals will from FCA lead a few bible studies among the athletic teams and regular students.  FCA is open to any individual on campus.

The Jewish Student Organization (small but eager to grow!) provides opportunities for social and religious activities.  While there are no formal religious services on campus, the Sabbath and holidays are occasionally celebrated in common with members of the area's Jewish community, and arrangements for participating in services for the High Holy Days at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Lynchburg are made for those who wish to attend.  The Organization and the office of the College Chaplain annually sponser a community Sedar.  The College library has a special endowment for books on Judaism and Jewish culture.  And biblical Hebrew is offered as an elective for academic credit in the Department of Religion.

College Church with the same schedule.  Our weekly "message" is given by a
variety of people, including professors and college administrators, local
clergy, HSC and LU alumni, and students.  We also provide weekly small group
gatherings that range from lunch together for fellowship and support to

YOUNG LIFE

Contact Kenneth Moorefield, Area Director  434-547-3670
    farmvilleyl@gmail.com
Young Life is an interdenominational ministry with the goal of introducing adolescence to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. At Hampden-Sydney we offer opportunities to be a part of this ministry through volunteering as a Young Life leader for local high school or middle school students. Through this involvement, our volunteers are able to minister through building friendships with teenagers and earning the right to tell them about Jesus Christ. In order to be involved with this ministry we ask that Hampden-Sydney students take part in a training program that starts in the fall semester. If you do not get involved in the fall though, please contact us and we can help figure out a way to train you for this work on an individualized basis.
