Dominican Republic Trip 2008

In early January 2008, Hampden-Sydney College's service and adventure program, Beyond the Hill, sent a group of Hampden Sydney folks to the Dominican Republic to work with Haitian refugees living in a large village in the mountains near Barahona, a beautiful city of 100,000 people on the southwest coast of the country. Participants built latrines and poured cement floors in several of the village huts while working side by side with the villagers, as well as painting the interior and exterior of a Dominican church flooded during the 2007 hurricane season.
