The evening of Friday March 27th, 2009, Hampden-Sydney's Beyond The Hill program along with the Hampden-Sydney Fly Fishing Club sponsored a fly tying clinic. The tying clinic was lead by friend of the College and world renowned fly fisherman and international guide, Harry Robertson. Student worked with fly tying kits purchased with funds from the fly fishing club and were able to keep the kits after the workshop so they could continue to practice the surprisingly addictive art of fly tying.
Mr. Robertson instructed the group on how to tie a number of different flies, but specifically flies that would catch fish on any of the College's three ponds. A number of the students have already successfully caught fish on the flies they tied during the workshop. Both the participants and Mr. Robertson were pleased with the outcome of the clinic and hope to establish it as a yearly offering from Hampden-Sydney's Beyond The Hill program.
