Housing Policy Exemption Forms

Hampden-Sydney College has a four-year residential requirement for all students.  Students who wish to receive an exemption from this four-year residential requirement, or request special accommodations within on-campus housing, may submit a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption using the processes outlined below.

General Submission Guidelines

    • Submission of a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption does not guarantee approval
    • The deadline for submission of a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption and all related documentation is
      • February 1 for current students
      • June 1 for new students enrolling in the fall
    • Late submissions will not be accepted


Non-Medical Requests

Current students who wish to receive an exemption from the College's four-year residential requirement because they are married, students commuting from their parent or guardian's home, or Non-Traditional Students (over age 24) need to complete the following forms and submit to the Office of Student Affairs by February 1.

New students entering in the fall should indicate their request on their Housing Questionnaire and submit these forms by to the Office of Student Affairs by June 1.

Medical Requests

Current students who wish to receive an exemption from the College's four-year residential requirement due to a medical or psychological condition need to make an appointment to meet with the Director of Student Health, Nurse Beth Graham, for an initial consultation.  During this consultation, students will receive the required forms and learn about the standards for documentation required from an appropriate medical/mental health professional.  Completed forms, and required supporting documentation from an appropriate medial/mental health professional, must be submitted to the Wellness Center by no later than February 1.

New students entering in the fall should indicate their request on their Housing Questionnaire and initiate contact with the Director of Student Health by not later than June 1.
