Most services last no longer than one hour. The longer ones typically fall on Sundays where there is a special service; i.e., Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, and services where there are Baptisms being performed.

 Typical Service:
The services follow a distinct structure that is based upon celebrating God's love and salvation. Communion is given every Sunday and is for any person, regardless of denomination, who has been baptized. However, if you have been baptized you are not required to take communion. Everyone is expect to stand and kneel as appropriate during the service. The homily, or sermon, typically lasts around fifteen to twenty minutes.

Youth Activities:
College students meet for food and fellowship on Sunday afternoons during the school year. Among other activities, the college ministry, The Canterbury Club, is associated with FACES food distribution in Farmville, Virginia - an incredible way to give back to the community.

Student Observations:
"John's Memorial Episcopal Church is a great place to worship. The Episcopal service follows a fairly traditional, structured diagram full of hymns, praise, and a very good sermon. I have known Father Chris for sometime and he is as good as it gets!" - Matt Shankle, student at Hampden-Sydney College.
