Hampden-Sydney has taught me to push myself. As an introvert, I may not be the typical H-SC student, but there is room for us all here.

Want to be part of something great? Many students here are doing amazing things -- helping to build houses, working with kids, caring for abandoned animals, and cleaning up rivers and roadsides, just to name a few.
Good men make a difference in the world. I encourage you to explore the ways you can be someone who makes a difference. A focus on helping others can shape how you relate to friends and family. It can inspire you to give your time and talents as a volunteer. It can also be a career choice.
Helping you become "a man who serves" is part of the mission of Hampden-Sydney College. The vibrant world of volunteer organizations is one of the distinctive strengths of American democracy. Volunteering your time is part of what it means to be a good citizen.
I worked in philanthropy, community development, and international development before coming to Hampden-Sydney. As part of that, our family lived in the Philippines for 6 years. I chose a service-oriented career, and I also enjoy volunteering. Come talk with me, and I'll be glad to help you find some ways to help others that are right for you. There are good opportunities here in Prince Edward County and elsewhere. You can make a difference!
