A Tradition of Student Governance

Hampden-Sydney has a significant tradition of student involvement in College governance. Our student-run Justice System has been a vital force on campus for over 100 years and continues to live and breathe because of the ongoing commitment of the student body and faculty. The Student Body President and the Student Senate have substantial leadership roles and responsibilities. Students serve as members of the faculty's Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Lectures and Programs, and Athletic Committees. In addition, students are named to various task forces, ad hoc committees, and often, to search committees seeking key College officers.

A list of the current student leaders serving in offices of Student Government is provided in Section 3 of The Key. All students are expected to participate in the selfgovernance that is prized so highly on our campus. Each student should become familiar with the Constitution of the Student Government (provided in Section 4) in order to facilitate his participation.
