The Tigers field NCAA sponsored varsity teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, and tennis.


The TigeRec IM Sports include basketball, 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament, dodgeball tournament, handball, flag football, indoor soccer tournament, kickball tournament, pick 'em contests for the College Bowl, NCAA, and NFL, ping pong tournament, softball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and videogame tournaments. Policies and Procedures

  • Entrances: use only doors at TigeRec Fitness Center.
  • Children under 13 years of age must have adult supervision.
  • All patrons must log in at the front desk. Failure to do so will result in loss of facility privileges and possible disciplinary action.
  • For general use, men use locker room 103, women use locker room 105 or the pool area locker room; all other locker rooms are off limits.
  • Individuals should bring their own locks; the College is not responsible for the security of personal property. Locker rental is available. Appropriate dress is required outside the locker rooms since these areas are used by both sexes.
  • No smoking, food, or beverages are allowed in Kirby Field House, except that during games concession food may be eaten on the balcony behind the home stands.
  • Guests must be accompanied by a member of the College community, each of whom is limited to one guest. Guests must fill out a waiver at the front desk.
  • The training room is under the direction of the athletic trainers; arrangements for its use should be made through them.
  • In case of an accident, please see Kirby Field House staff and fill out an accident form as soon as possible. As necessary, contact the Student Health Center or the rescue squad at 911.
  • Abuse of Kirby Field House will result in loss of the privilege to use the facility and the possibility of disciplinary or other action.
  • Only authorized teams are allowed on the raised wooden basketball floor.
  • During Varsity Basketball games, Fleet Gymnasium will be off limits for general patron use.
  • During Varsity Swim Meets, Leggett Pool will be off limits for general patron use.

Special Programs

On a limited basis, special programs such as high school basketball tournaments and pool parties by recognized Farmville area groups and established groups within the College may be arranged through the Athletic Department.


These hours are valid while classes are in session. The College reserves the right to alter these hours. When intercollegiate games are held in Kirby Field House, other areas of the Field House may be closed.

The Fitness Center, home of Tiger Recreation-Fitness & Sports, in Kirby Field House, is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle in a relaxing atmosphere. For your cardiovascular workout, the Center includes a Cardio-Theatre system with seven 32" televisions that offer viewing to seven treadmills, six elliptical trainers, six bicycles, two stairclimbers, and one Concept Ⅱ rower.

The Fitness Center also caters to the weightlifter with a complete line of free weight equipment, Hammer Strength systems and LifeFitness selectorized equipment. There are also multiple locations to work the important core muscles (abs, lower back, etc.). TRX Suspension Trainers and a 70 lb. heavy bag are also available for use.

The Aerobics Room (located on the second floor) is stocked with the latest group exercise and personal use fitness equipments. There are three refurbished racquetball courts. Leggett Pool is also available and provides excellent exercise opportunities.


  • The Fitness Center is a controlled access facility. Only authorized users are allowed entry and must enter and exit through the Control desk.
  • Responsibility for general supervision of building, fitness area, and racquetball courts rests with the staff members and supervisors directly in charge of the activity or area. Students provide primary supervision for the facility and act with the full authority of the Fitness Center Director. Harassment or disregard of the directions provided by the staff will result in immediate removal from the facility and may result in additional disciplinary action.
  • Profane or indecent language is not permitted.
  • Appropriate attire is necessary to gain access to the fitness center. Shirts and shoes are required to be worn in all non-aquatic activity areas. The College reserves the right to determine what constitutes appropriate attire.
  • The possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs (steroids, inhibitors, etc.) is not permitted. The use of tobacco products including smokeless tobacco is not permitted in the building.
  • Food may not be consumed outside the lounge/vending area. Beverages are permitted in the activity areas only if contained in a resealable, non-glass container.
  • Animals are not permitted in the building.

Racquetball Courts:

The courts are open to all members. From 4 PM – 7 PM only students, faculty, and staff can reserve the courts. Reservations may be made no more than 48 hours in advance of the day that court time is requested, and no later than 2 PM of the same day. Reservations are made in 30-minute increments, with a maximum of 2 consecutive 30-minute reservations. If courts have not been reserved, members may use them on a first come, first served basis. Eye protection and safety cords must be used. Courts are reserved by calling ext. 6699.


  • All patrons must enter through the Fitness Center.
  • No one is allowed in the pool unless a lifeguard is on duty.
  • Horseplay, such as running, shoving, and dunking, is not permitted.
  • Diving is permitted only in designated areas and may be restricted at any time for any reason.
  • An adult must remain in the water at all times with children wearing water wings or infant/child floatation devices (this does not pertain to scheduled College-directed swim lessons).
  • No one should hang, sit, or stand on the lane lines dividing the swimming lanes.
  • Food, glass containers, and metal objects are not permitted in the pool area.
  • Persons with sores are not permitted in the pool.
  • Appropriate swim attire must be worn. Infants and toddlers must wear water-appropriate diapers.
  • No alcohol.
  • Patrons MUST take showers prior to swimming in the pool.


Fleet Gym is open for use by members and guests of TigeRec whenever Kirby Field House is open, except when intercollegiate competition or sports events are scheduled or time is set aside for use by an intercollegiate team as stated below. Please note that some of the varsity team reservations are for rainy days or other special occasions, and the gym is often unavailable for use during those hours.

  • Since grit on shoes worn outdoors will harm the composition floor, please bring a clean pair of shoes in which to play.

  • Playing time is restricted to one hour if other people are waiting.

Fall soccer, football, spring baseball, and lacrosse (in poor weather or field conditions only; schedule made on semester basis): From the day new students arrive until November 15: 3 – 6:30 PM.

Basketball (unless posted differently): October 15 until March 1: 4 – 7 PM and on certain days as posted: 6 – 7:30 PM.
