Increasing Self-Esteem

Shawn White, Asst. Dean of Students

50 min.

Low esteem can be recognized in depression or unhappiness with our circumstances, and stems from our insecurity. The expectations of others may take preference over yours. Inner criticism, that nagging voice of disapproval inside you, causes you to stumble at every challenge, and challenges seem impossible to face head on. Esteem is built when
we realize our holistic self-worth, and once that recognition becomes a part of our identity we begin to experience greater satisfaction with life. The greater the satisfaction the less conflict we experience and the more pro-active we become instead of reactionary. Increasing our self-esteem empowers us to be more creative, express ourselves more fully, contribute more, and share ourselves with the world and those around us.

Maximizing Self-Awareness

Shawn White, Asst. Dean of Students

50 min.

Self-awareness, or understanding more about ourselves, is at the center of personal development and career development. This development process should run parallel to your academic studies, and the two processes should complement each other. Self- awareness is simply knowing more about ourselves. It is a lifelong process that happens gradually, but at times it can be helpful to put effort into raising our self-awareness. As you gain self-awareness and self empowerment you will realize that you can develop to your fullest potential and transform your dreams into reality.
