Leadership Center Alumni Programs
The Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest connects the public service education of our current students with the continuing education of the College's many alumni who work in national, state and local governments and non-profit organizations.
Hampden-Sydney alumni in the public sector are invited to campus to share their expertise with current students. This may take place in the form of a speech, panel discussion, class lecture, weekend seminar, or informal lunch meeting. They may submit a report from the field to the Wilson Center web site.
Interaction with alumni may also take place in dinner meetings in which alumni, current students and faculty have a moderated discussion on specific problems and issues in public affairs. Another popular and tremendously educational annual event is the day-long Washington D.C. Trip to meet with H-SC alumni who work on the Hill.
The College also sponsors an alumni public service forum in conjunction with Homecoming, in which several alumni meet with students for informal discussion about their careers, with opportunities for students to discuss their career plans with these accomplished alumni.
The Wilson Center annually recognizes accomplishments of alumni whose careers, and often lives, have been devoted to public service. One or more alumni are given the Patrick Henry Public Service Award at the annual banquet of the Wilson Center.
