2012 Patrick Henry Awards


Each year, shortly before commencement, the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest bestows the Patrick Henry Public Service Award at an awards banquet which follows the Wilson Center Advisory Board spring meeting.

Patrick Henry awards are given to H-SC alumni whose service to their country, their states, and/or their communities is deserving of high praise and recognition. President Christopher B. Howard presented the 2012 Patrick Henry Public Service award recipients to:

• G. Michael Pace '79, in recognition of extraordinary service to his profession and the people of the Commonwealth of Virgina
• W. Birch Douglass '65, in recognition of an outstanding career, dedicated public servant and model alumnus

• Robert P. Roper '68, in recognition of exemplary service to his profession and the citizens of Mathews County and the Commonwealth of Virginia

The award recipients were guests of honor at the April 20th banquet which was also attended by Wilson Center staff, Public Service Certificate Program and Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate Program students, members of the Faculty Oversight Committee and Advisory Board, community members and other invited guests.

  2011 Patrick Henry Public Service Award recipients are Maurice A. Jones '86 and Henry Anderson Shield '63

Each year, shortly before commencement, the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest bestows the Patrick Henry Public Service Award at an awards banquet which follows the Wilson Center Advisory Board spring meeting.

Patrick Henry awards are given to H-SC alumni whose service to their country, their states, and/or their communities is deserving of high praise and recognition. President Christopher B. Howard presented the 2011 Patrick Henry Public Service award recipients to:

• Maurice A. Jones '86, in recognition of distinguished career in public service on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation and leadership in the field of communications.
• Henry Anderson Shield '63, in recognition of distinguished service in historic preservation of properties of and related to Patrick Henry.

The award recipients were guests of honor at the April 1st banquet which was also attended by Wilson Center staff, Public Service Certificate Program and Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate Program students, members of the Faculty Oversight Committee and Advisory Board,community members and other invited guests.

Patrick Henry awards are given to H-SC alumni whose service to their country, their states, and/or their communities is deserving of high praise and recognition. President Walter M. Bortz III presented the 2009 Patrick Henry Public Service award recipients to:

• Thomas A. Duvall III '69, in recognition of distinguished leadership and service on behalf of international development.
• Rev. Dr. Edgar C. Mayse '57, in recognition of distinguished ministerial career in service to the people of Virginia, Maryland, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina.
• Raymond B. Bottom, Jr. '51, in recognition of distinguished philanthropic and humanitarian service on behalf of the people of Virginia and the USO of Hampton Roads.

The award recipients were guests of honor at the April 17th banquet which was also attended by Wilson Center staff, Public Service Certificate Program and Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate Program students, members of the Faculty Oversight Committee and Advisory Board,community members and other invited guests.
