The Patrick Henry awards are given to H-SC alumni whose service to their country, their states, and/or their communities is deserving of high praise and recognition. The 2005 Patrick Henry Public Service award recipients are:
- Mr. L. Rucker Snead III '81 (LTC, U.S.A. ret.), Hampden-Sydney, VA in recognition of distinguished service to the people of the United States
- Mr. Gary O'Connell '73, Charlottesville, VA in recognition of distinguished service to the people of Charlottesville, Virginia
There is yet another award that the Wilson Center occasionally bestows, the James Madison Award. This award goes to friends of the College who have assisted the Center, either directly or indirectly, in carrying out its mission of civic education. The James Madison award recipient in 2005 is Mr. Earl F. ("Frosty") Lockwood, who has helped the Wilson Center on numerous occasions over the last decade, providing assistance with obtaining high quality speakers as well as providing financial support.
These award recipients were guests of honor at the April 29th banquet which was also attended by Wilson Center staff, members of the oversight committee and Advisory Board, junior and senior Public Service Certificate Program students and other invited guests.
