2005 Service Awards Story

Hugo Rodriguez '88 accepts a Patrick Henry Award on behalf of alumni who have been serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hugo Rodriguez, Jr. is a Foreign Service Officer with the United States Department of State. He was recently back in the United States after serving in Iraq. He spoke to an attentive audience of 70 in Parents & Friends Lounge on February 14, 2005.

Rodriguez was Hampden-Sydney College's student body president back in 1988, and has had an outstanding career since leaving campus.

Following Rodgriguez's presentation, he accepted a Patrick Henry Public Service Award on behalf of a group of alumni. The inscription on the award read, "PRESENTED TO ALL HAMPDEN- SYDNEY ALUMNI WHOSE SERVICE IN AFGANISTAN AND IRAQ ADVANCED THE CAUSE OF GLOBAL FREEDOM AND SECURITY." Dean of the Faculty Earl Fleck made the presentation.
