Report from the field: Situation on the Ground within Iraq

The primary focus for both the US and Iraqi Forces is the upcoming election. The focus is felt everyday in how our platoon operates in and around the nearby city. With each patrol that my platoon goes on, we are working with our partners to get out and ensure that polling sites are secure, that people are not being intimidated, and that the Rule of Law is being enforced. Our Iraqi counterparts are the controlling force in the country and we are proud to support them during this critical era in their nation's history.

Security among the soldiers is still a top priority as everyday poses a threat from an unseen enemy. However, it is important to note that the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Security Forces are making the rules and controlling the laws that govern operations in within Iraq. For my platoon this means that each day we go outside the wire we are prepared for anything, because we have trained for everything. Finally, we firmly understand that the work we are doing with the Iraqi Security Forces is helping to strengthen the overall security of Iraq and, more importantly, allowing us to let Iraq
