Global Terrorism
Hampden-Sydney welcomed Lt. General Ronald L. Burgess, Jr., Office of the Director of National Intelligence, to speak at Crawley Forum on Monday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m. This event was free and open to the public, and a crowd of approximately 100 turned out.
Burgess was selected June 6, 2006, by President George W. Bush to be Acting Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He replaced Lt. Gen. Michael V. Hayden, now Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Burgess previously served as the Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Customer Outcomes (Requirements) and has now been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new Director of the Intelligence Staff, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, a newly-created position.
Commissioned in Military Intelligence through the Auburn University ROTC Program in 1974, Burgess earned a Master of Science degree in Education from the University of Southern California in 1980, and a Master of Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1986. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Military Intelligence Officers Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Advanced Military Studies Program, and the Air War College.
